How I Built a Successful Online Course and Make Money Teaching Others
Creating an online course has been one of the most rewarding ventures in my career. Not only does it allow me to share my expertise with a global audience, but it also generates a steady income.
In this article, I’ll walk you through the steps I took to build a successful online course and offer some tips on how you can do the same.
1. Identify Your Expertise and Audience
The first step in creating an online course is to identify what you’re good at and what others might be willing to learn from you. For me, this was digital marketing. After spending years working with clients and helping businesses grow online, I realized there was a demand for actionable, easy-to-follow training on this subject.
Here’s what I did:
- Niche down: Instead of offering a broad “digital marketing” course, I focused on a specific area — content marketing for small businesses. This allowed me to target a more defined audience.
- Validate the idea: I engaged with my audience on social media and my blog, asking them what topics they struggled with and what they would like to learn more about. This feedback was invaluable in shaping my course content.
